Here it is, my long awaited Stars & Stripes Forever sock yarn! This yarn was so popular last year that I am taking pre-orders so I can be sure to order enough yarn (but I will cap it off....there are only so many striping yarns a girl can make and still enjoy summer!)
Since my usual sock yarn is a bit on the thick side for sock yarn, I will be dyeing my summer yarns on a new base for me...a Superwash Merino/Bamboo/Nylon blend (60/30/10), 3ply. The skeins will have plenty of yardage for socks....430y, 115g (4oz).
Bamboo has natural antibacterial properties, has a marvelous luster, and is light and cool. The merino adds memory and wicking properties, and the nylon lends its strength to the blend.
The pattern in the yarn is 5 alternating stripes of red and white that knit up to about 2 rows each, and then one ~4 row section of blue with 'stars'. If you belong to Ravelry, you can see an example of socks knitted with this yarn. Note: The pictures are from last year's yarn, this year's colors may be somewhat different, but will definitely be red, white, and blue!

Pre-Orders will be taken until May 4th, 2008 (or until they are sold out, whichever is soonest). I will order the yarn on May 5th, and start dyeing the moment it arrives. I'll keep an update running in my blog as far as progress, and of course I will get the yarn to you as quickly as possible. I'll probably make more this summer, but it isn't guaranteed, plus the price will be a bit higher....the bamboo yarn just plain costs more! |
